The people behind your investments

James Sherrard

CeMAP
Mortgage and Protection Adviser

My role at St Barts Finance

Since starting my career in 1999, I have worked for my fair share of companies, but always found myself more settling at the closer, family run companies. When the market started to pick up again after the crash in 2008, I came across Steve who was growing faster than he could keep up with. A decade has passed, and I have never looked back.

With clients stretching across the globe, there is not a scenario or complication that I have not come across before and often find myself sharing this knowledge with the advisers who have more recently started their journey into advising. They are also gradually learned my unique level of sarcasm as we go!

I used to specialise in adverse credit mortgages and still enjoy working with clients to improve their scores and get them back on the property ladder or back with a High Street Lender with a preferred interest rate.

Getting to know me

What’s something you’re proud of?
I am proud to be in my 25th year of Mortgage advising. It is a privilege to be able to help people achieve their goals and dreams. I am extremely proud of my wife and children too of course!

Who inspires you?
Whilst this will sound generic, it would be my parents. Not only is my father the best banjo player I know, but they also both instilled a strong work ethic in me as well as ensuring I never take anything for granted.

What talents or hobbies do you have?
I’m not sure it can be classed as a talent, but I can do something most people can’t… Make Tom Cruise look tall!

What’s your favourite thing to do on the weekends?
Unfortunately, whilst I inherited my father’s stature, I didn’t inherit his musical talent! Time is somewhat limited having 3 children under 9 but if I can find the time, I enjoy playing golf (badly), dusting of the table tennis in the garage every now and again and Molkky (I will leave you to have a look online!)

“The St Barts team are fantastic and I couldn’t have done it without them!”
